September is National Preparedness Month. The City of Eugene Emergency Management Program has joined the Ready Campaign, founded after 9/11 to increase preparedness throughout all communities in the U.S. Public Safety Agencies in Lane County are expanding the capabilities of their Community Emergency Notification System (CENS) so that public officials can reach more members of the community with timely alert and warning information. With CENS and the “Alert Me” registration, critical information can be relayed to you about emergency situations that require your immediate attention.
- Do you want to be notified in the event of an emergency via cell phone?
CENS allows Public Safety Agencies in Lane County to identify an affected area and, if necessary, send a message that describes the situation and recommend protective actions residents should take. The CENS system will automatically call out to all land-line and Alert Me registered telephone numbers within that geographic area and deliver the recorded message once a voice is heard. If your phone line is busy, the system will attempt to redial the number three times to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine.
