Southeast Neighbors Prepare for Winter & Collect for National Guard Troops

Southeast Neighbors joins with the Red Cross and EWEB for a neighborhood meeting to plan for the possibility of neighborhood power failures, loss of communication services, and icy roads this winter.

“Climate extremes will be the most visible impact of global warming in our everyday lives,” explains Association President Heather Sielicki. “Many residents in the south hills are cut off during periods of extreme cold weather and we need to be ready as a community to deal with challenges.”

Southeast Neighbors will also be collecting items on the “wish list” of the 11th Bravo Infantry of the United States Army National Guard stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan. This 21-member, Oregon-based unit is deployed as a QRF (Quick Response Force) through the holiday season and we are looking to give them some seasonal cheer. A table will be set up for drop off during the day for neighbors who can’t make the meeting.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in the Good Samaritan Society Meeting Room on 3500 Hilyard St. It begins with a dessert potluck with coffee, tea and informal discussion at 6:30pm, followed by the meeting from 7:00pm – 8:30pm.
