Hundreds of people turned out for tonight’s Egan training, enough that they were able to conduct two trainings. Some were turned away when the church reached capacity.
There is another training on Saturday, 11-1, 12/5/15 at First Christian Church (1166 Oak St.). Complete an application at http://eganwarmingcenter.com/volunteers/volunteerapplication.html to be added to the notification list for additional community trainings.
Beyond volunteers, other assistance also is needed. Donations of sleeping bags, blankets, coats, socks and other items to keep people warm over the winter can be dropped off at any St. Vincent de Paul location. Donors should make sure their gifts are clearly marked “Egan Warming Center.”
Donations of nonperishable food items can be dropped off at FOOD for Lane County, 770 Bailey Hill Road in Eugene. Center organizers ask that donations not be dropped off at any of the warming center sites, and note that health regulations prohibit volunteers from serving food that is not prepared in a certified commercial kitchen.
Financial donations can be made online at svdp.us/get-involved/donate/ or by mail at P.O. Box 24608, Eugene, OR 97402.
