“Cracking the Codes” Plays Sunday at the Hilyard Community Center

Sunday, January 31st 4pm at Hilyard Community Center SURJ Springfield-Eugene is hosting the film Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity, by filmmaker Shakti Butler. It features moving stories from racial justice leaders including Amer Ahmed, Michael Benitez, Barbie-Danielle DeCarlo, Joy DeGruy, Ericka Huggins, Humaira Jackson, Yuko Kodama, Peggy McIntosh, Rinku Sen, Tilman Smith and Tim Wise.

This film provides a powerful account of how the signifiers of racism continue to operate in our society, and how the fear and stereotypes behind these “codes” harm Americans of all races. A discussion will follow.
