During this exercise agencies and organizations that have a role in coordinating spontaneous volunteers during an emergency or disaster will have the opportunity to assess their volunteer placement capabilities while enhancing their understanding of operating a Volunteer Reception Center.
Because Southeast Neighbors is a member organization of the Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) network and will most likely assist with mobilizing neighborhood volunteers after a major disaster (like an earthquake), we want to understand the process and challenges involved with large scale efforts. Our goal for participating is this exercise is to glean information for inclusion in our neighborhood emergency response plan.
Join us for group work using scenario information and injects dealing with the numerous challenges associated with screening and placing spontaneous volunteers with various response agencies and organizations.
The local office of emergency management has just contacted your agency asking that you mobilize to establish a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) in response to the disaster that has just taken place.
Local emergency management is expecting at least 700 individuals will need to be screened and processed through the VRC in the next couple of days.
The exercise is scheduled for Wed, February 24, 9:00am – 12:00pm at the Hilyard Community Center. All community members and supporting agencies are welcome. Please RSVP to Heather Sielicki at firstname.lastname@example.org.
