From Devonne Maxey <email@example.com> Outreach Coordinator Oregon State Service Corps Member City of Eugene | Risk Services Division
After an area-wide disaster, as you know, emergency services will likely be overwhelmed. Join us in an exercise designed to test the feasibility of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers reporting to local neighborhood fire stations in the aftermath of an area-wide disaster. In this case, a major earthquake.
For CERTs, this is a great opportunity for you to test your readiness. If you are not ready or have not yet been CERT trained, don’t let that stop you from participating. We have a place for everyone! We’ll develop and send out CERT neighborhood teams to assess the area and report back, we’ll have CERTs assigned to work with spontaneous volunteers, CERTs to work with triage and disaster medical needs, and CERTs to greet ‘residents’ and answer questions. If you don’t feel comfortable with any of those tasks, we also need people to be the spontaneous volunteers, and we need people to act as residents and/or victims. Family and friends (over 14) can help out in those roles, too. This will be a learning exercise, and a lot of fun, too! Hope to see you there!
