The city of Eugene has bought 100 acres of forestland near the Lane Community College campus for $850,000 in a deal city parks planning manager Neil Bjorklund calls a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” But it may be a lifetime before the public can easily access the property. The densely wooded, largely inaccessible site lies on the west side of Interstate 5 about a half-mile north of LCC. Bjorklund said the land ultimately will become part of the city’s ridgeline trail system, a network of partially connected parklands along the city’s southern rim.
