Sunday Streets is looking for more Intersection Superhero volunteers for this weekend. They ensure that both foot and car traffic flow smoothly, serve as route cheerleaders and are encouraged to wear costumes and be creative as they cheer the participants along the route. To sign up, contact Emily Farthing at SundayStreets@ci.eugene.or.us or register online www.eugene-or.gov/essvolunteer. This is a great parent/child opportunity.
Because several streets will be off-limits to cars, traffic will be impacted. From 10:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Hilyard Street between 24th and 27th avenues, 24th Avenue from Hilyard Street to Agate Street, and Agate Street from 24th to 19th avenues will be closed. With the help of volunteers, cars will be able to cross the route at Harris Street and 24th Avenue, Emerald Street and 24th Avenue, and Agate Street and 22th Avenue. Motorists, including those who are heading to the Shopping Center at 24th Avenue and Hilyard Street, are encouraged to park in the Very Little Theatre parking lot on 24th Avenue and Hilyard Street (northwest corner). Drivers are encouraged to plan for detours and short delays.
From Amazon and University parks to the businesses on 19th Avenue and Agate Street, the streets will be filled with walkers, rollers, cyclists, music, dancing, vending and the dunk tank will be back for this 84 degree day!
