Our thanks go to all those who entered the Logo Contest which was voted on at the Southeast Neighbors Picnic in September. Our runner-up was Niki Harris. Our winner, Cara Brasted, was raised here in South Eugene. We originally intended for the Southeast Neighbors Board to decide the outcome, but opening the voting to picnic-goers ensured an opportunity for a wider range of opinions.
Cara grew up on 43rd Street in South Eugene. She attended Edgewood Elementary School, Spencer Butte Middle School and South Eugene High School. Through the International High School program, Cara spent time studying abroad in Orsono, Chile. Cara ran cross-country with South Eugene High School team which trained on the Amazon trail and in Tugman Park. Delighting in the outdoors, Cara is an avid cyclist and hiker. Says she is really impressed with the changes in the Spencer Butte Hiking Trail. After graduation, Cara attended Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.
Graduating with majors in Art Therapy and Spanish May, 2015, Cara spent five months teaching in a volunteer program in Concepción, Chile. She has taught classes for children and adults at the Emerald Art Center in Springfield, OR. Currently, she is looking for a full time job and hopes to get certification teaching English as a second language.
In her entry, Cara stated:
This logo represents Southeast Eugene because it pictures an outline of Spencer Butte which is the beautiful skyline we can see from many places in our neighborhood. “Southeast Eugene” looks like rays around the sun because of the light we have in our community. There is a bicycle in place of “oo” because many people in our neighborhood use bicycles for transportation, and the house and tree represent all of the nature that surrounds our homes. I decided to use a circle because the Southeast Eugene Neighborhood Association is a community that comes together to help each other. “
We think her idea is visually clear and many people felt happy with her image. The new logo will appear on stationery, cards and other publications of the organization. Congratulations and Good Luck to Cara.
