Spring is here, and it’s time to get your lawn and garden shipshape for the growing season. Or, if you happened to store your tools in less than working order last fall, it’s tool repair time!
We’re hosting our first repair café event of 2017 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Planet Improvement Center on Saturday, March 18.
This event kicks off BRING’s annual series of DIY skill-building workshops and demonstrations to teach participants how to fix things or build simple projects. The first repair café includes hands-on and hands-in activities to repair tools.
You are invited! Bring your rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, trowels, pruners, garden hoses, and more to BRING for repair. Visit the sharpening station tosharpen your rusty and dull tools using a DIY hand-cranked bench grinder and various files. At another station, BRING staff will assist you in replacing missing or broken plastic and wood handles (while supplies last).
And did you know dirty carburetors are the most common reason people discard gas-powered lawn tools? Get instructions on how to clean out the carburetor on a lawn mower during demonstrations at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
The ToolBox Project, a local membership-based nonprofit that loans home and garden tools to community members, will be on hand with tools to use for repair demonstrations. BRING staff will also be available to assist and consult on other repair needs.
$5 suggested donation per participant.
