Listening to Elders in Our Minority Communities

Join us for this exciting 6-week speaker series through River Road Park District. Each listening session features a different elder, or an elder couple, recalling their life stories—with personal insights drawn from living in minority communities locally.

  • Session #1 opens the series with scheduled guest Willie Mims and Sally Mims of local African-American community and local history
  • Session #2’s guest is scheduled to be local sculptor who is a Jewish holocaust survivor.
  • Session #4’s guest is scheduled to be the DJ of “Indian Time”” on the radio (KRvM 91.9 Thursday evenings 7-9)
  • Session #6 will be at a different location to be in conjunction with the opening of the “We Are Your Neighbors” exhibit at the Springfield Museum.

Not sure if a class is right for you? Come try the first class for just $10. If you decide to take the class, you may register for the class at the main office. Note: you can register for “no fee / low fee” and that helps us have enough food, handout, chairs, etc. Volunteering help is also welcome.
