TREASURER REPORT
In April we paid the lawyer Charlie Tebbit $4,482.25 for his work on procuring the Amazon Headwaters. SEN owed the firm $7,200 but he has excused the rest of the fee. We have $656.99 in bank account and a possible $4,600 in outreach funds(july- oct.). David Monk floated the idea that we purchase lawn signs($4-$5) that say “love your neighbor”- check out the Jefferson WEstside neighborhood to see these signs. Also he informed us about printing materials costs for disaster preparedness(100 brochures -$10) And walkie talkies( $20 each) for disaster preparedness- good deal from Bi-Mart. Walkie talkies were voted on in previous meeting. City should reimburse us for sound engineers, and performers for picnic.
LINDA HEYL from 350 Eugene spoke about the pipeline being installed on 30th street from Amazon Park to Bloomberg Road( up the 30th) “natural gas” is really methane gas which is being fracked. SheInformed us that there is a Eugene Climate Recovery Ordinance 2014 that calls for the phasing out of all fossil fuels( which natural gas is). John Kloor, representative for Northwest Natural Gas said that the pipeline work is not expansion but a” stabilization of the system.especially for existing customers in Winter months; In Eugene, natural gas burns 8 times more carbon than electricity. The city does not get to say yes or no to this project- only if it meets technical requirements. The scope of the project was okayed at a state level. 350 Eugene is trying to educate people about how switching fuels to electricity is less harmful to the environment. Fuel switching rallies will be held at 30th and Hilyard throughout the coming months- check their website.
